Articles of Operation

This publication reproduces, in full, the Articles of Operation and the Operator’s Pledge as administered under Form RMX-S1. It is provided for public reading. No application, examination, or e-mail address is required to review this material.

Pursuant to the authority vested in the Sound Tech by being the only person in the building who knows where the limiter is, the following governs all operation of the RMX-1000 within participating venues. No unit shall be patched, powered, or so much as looked at meaningfully without a valid permit on file with the booth.

PUBLIC ADVISORY RMX-A-001 - Playback of ripped audio in licensed venues is governed by Article VI of the RMX-1000 Operator’s Permit and carries no warning tier.

Definitions

"The Unit"the Pioneer RMX-1000 remix station, in any of its finishes, including yours.
"Snare Roll"any use of the rhythm FX to subdivide a snare, clap, or percussion element into escalating note values. You know exactly what this means.
"The Buildup"the portion of a track during which the Operator believes the crowd is watching them. The crowd is at the bar.
"Tasteful"a standard the Operator will claim to meet and the booth will adjudicate.
"The Booth"final authority on all matters herein. The Booth's decision is final. The Booth has heard it all before.

Article I. SNARE ROLL OPERATIONS

  1. 1.1. Operator shall perform no more than two (2) snare rolls per set.
  2. 1.2. A second roll may be authorized only with promoter consent AND visual confirmation of at least one (1) crowd member actively losing their mind. Documentation (video, minimum 720p) filed with the booth within 48 hours.
  3. 1.3. Snare rolls during another DJ's set constitute a Class A violation and immediate permit revocation.
  4. 1.4. Stacking the roll with Echo AND a filter sweep AND a white noise riser is classified as Excessive Force.
  5. 1.5. "But it was the drop" is not a recognized defense before the Booth.

Article II. PITCH KNOB LIMITS

  1. 2.1. The Pitch knob shall not exceed the 2 o'clock position except in cases of active structural fire.
  2. 2.2. In the event of active structural fire, Operator may proceed to 3 o'clock while evacuating. Operator may not remain in the booth to "finish the buildup."
  3. 2.3. Full clockwise rotation is reserved for licensed hardstyle professionals and is subject to audit.
  4. 2.4. Slow manual pitch rises performed while nodding at the crowd count double against the Article III bar limit.

Article III. RECKLESS BUILDUP

  1. 3.1. Holding 1/16th notes beyond sixteen (16) consecutive bars while making sustained eye contact with the crowd constitutes Reckless Buildup in the First Degree.
  2. 3.2. Aggravating factors: pointing at the ceiling, mouthing "are you ready," removing headphones to gesture with them, standing on anything.
  3. 3.3. Escalating 1/8 → 1/16 → 1/32 → 1/64 in a single buildup is permitted once per set and never twice in a row. The second one is not a surprise.
  4. 3.4. A buildup with no drop ("the fake-out") is permitted once per calendar quarter and must be genuinely funny.

Article IV. RELEASE FX LEVER PROTOCOL

  1. 4.1. The Release FX lever is classified as regulated equipment.
  2. 4.2. Deployment requires verbal two-step confirmation: Operator states "requesting clearance to pull." The Booth responds "clear to pull" or shakes head slowly. There is no appeals process.
  3. 4.3. Back Spin: approved for general use, maximum two (2) per set. Echo out: approved. Vinyl Brake: one (1) deployment per calendar month, exemptions filed in triplicate before doors.
  4. 4.4. Pulling the lever and then immediately doing it again because it felt good is the exact behavior this document exists to prevent.

Article V. SCENE FX & X-PAD CONDUCT

  1. 5.1. Scene FX are seasoning. The set is the meal. Operators found treating Scene FX as the meal will be asked what the last three tracks even were.
  2. 5.2. The X-Pad shall not be drummed on like a practice pad during someone else's transition.
  3. 5.3. Custom X-Pad samples loaded via SD card must be auditioned in headphones before deployment. The airhorn does not need to be auditioned because the airhorn is not permitted. See Schedule of Penalties.
  4. 5.4. Isolate FX: cutting the lows for the entire second verse of every track is not "tension." It is the same trick. The crowd has noticed.

Article VI. INPUT SIGNAL STANDARDS

  1. 6.1. The Unit processes what you feed it. Feeding the Unit a YouTube or SoundCloud rip and expecting the FX to fix it is a violation of both this permit and physics. The frequencies are gone. They are not coming back. Running it through Isolate does not summon them.
  2. 6.2. The Booth can hear it. The Booth can always hear it.
  3. 6.3. Operator acknowledges that booth infrastructure displays filenames to all booth personnel, and that a filename is a confession. Renaming files conceals the evidence while preserving the crime, and constitutes consciousness of guilt.
  4. 6.4. The Perfect Edit Clause. Where a track exists solely as a low-quality upload, Operator shall first request the source file from its creator and check for a download gate before deploying the degraded copy. The Bureau permits grief over edits that cannot be sourced. The Bureau does not permit a library of them.

Article VII. GENERAL ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

  1. 7.1. Operator acknowledges that the crowd can hear everything you're doing.
  2. 7.2. Operator acknowledges that silence before a drop is also an effect, and it's free.
  3. 7.3. Operator acknowledges that the Unit was fine before they touched it and will be checked after.

The Operator’s Pledge

Recited and executed at Step 4 of the application. Reproduced here in the prescribed form, with the applicant’s name indicated in brackets.

"I, [NAME], being of sound mind and reasonable gain staging, do solemnly swear to operate the RMX-1000 with restraint, taste, and respect for the people who paid to be here. I will not snare roll every buildup. I will not exceed 2 o'clock. I will not feed the Unit rips. I understand the effects serve the set - the set does not serve the effects. So help me the Booth."
