The following questions are submitted to the Bureau with sufficient frequency to warrant publication. Answers below are official and are not subject to clarification.
- 1. Do I need a permit?
- If you are asking, yes. If you are not asking, the requirement is unchanged.
- 2. How long does processing take?
- Processing is immediate. Review of processing may take up to eighteen (18) months and is conducted separately.
- 3. My permit says VOID IF SNARE ROLLED. Is my permit void?
- Not at this time.
- 4. I rolled the snare. Is my permit void now?
- The Bureau does not comment on the status of individual permits. Please consult your permit.
- 5. Can I appeal a violation filed against me?
- Yes. Appeals are submitted in triplicate to the Office of the Snare Roll Registrar. The Office of the Snare Roll Registrar does not accept appeals.
- 6. Why was my application approved before I finished the examination?
- The examination is not scored. The examination is recorded.
- 7. Is the permit legally binding?
- The permit confers no legal rights whatsoever. Failure to hold one remains a violation.
- 8. I lost my permit. What should I do?
- Locate your permit.
- 9. Can a permit be transferred to another operator?
- Permits are non-transferable, except in cases where transfer has already occurred, in which case the Bureau will be notified in writing after the fact.
- 10. What is the difference between Class S and the other classes?
- There are no other classes.
- 11. Who do I contact with further questions?
- The Bureau does not maintain a public telephone number, a public mailing address, or a public office. Further questions may be submitted using this page, which does not accept submissions.
- 12. Why does this website look like this?
- The website was last redesigned in accordance with prevailing standards. Prevailing standards have not been reviewed since.

- 13. Is it okay to play YouTube rips at a club?
- No.
- 14. Is it okay to play SoundCloud rips at a club?
- No.
- 15. Do rips sound fine on a big sound system?
- No. They sound worse on a big system than anywhere else, for the reasons in Section 4.
- 16. Does converting an MP3 to WAV improve the quality?
- No. It produces a larger file with identical missing audio.
- 17. Can you fix a low-quality rip with EQ?
- No. The information was deleted, not hidden.
- 18. But the rip says 320 kbps?
- The platform never streamed at 320. The file is describing its container, not its contents. The file is lying about itself.
- 19. What if the crowd can't tell?
- The system can. The Booth can. Some of the crowd can, and they are exactly the ones who came for the sound system. The determination stands.
- 20. What if it's just one track, just for tonight?

- 21. Where should DJs get music instead?
- Section 6. It costs almost nothing and the files contain the entire song.
